EThe same day that Italian tennis lost Jannik Sinner, its number one, Jasmine Paolini has continued the best moment of his life.
Finalist at Roland Garros on June 8, she reached the Wimbledon semifinals a month later after defeating Emma Navarro, by a resounding 6-2, 6-1.. No one from her country had achieved it in the female category. She is the oldest to debut in two ‘Grand Slam’ semi-finals in the same season since Betty Stove, in 1977.
Paolini will meet in Thursday’s semi-final with Donna Vekicexecutioner of Lulu Sun, 5-7, 6-4 and 6-1. The transalpina does not stop rising in the ranking and she is already the fifth WTA racket despite her 1.63 meters. She is one of the lowest players in the ‘top100’ although she makes up for it with her speed, mental strength and winning character.
