EBritish tennis is once again shipwrecked on the grass of Wimbledon, its reference tournament. There will be no local tennis players in the individual draws in the second week of competition after the defeat of Emma Raducanu at the hands of the unknown Lulu Sun, 6-2, 5-7 and 6-2.
Raducanu was in the eye of the hurricane from fans and the local media after leaving Andy Murray down on Saturday in the mixed event.
A day later he gave up at the All England Club headquarters against the 123rd in the world and won the ticket in the qualifying phase. The New Zealand player now has seven wins on the big grass court and will compete for a place in the semifinals with the Croatian Donna Vekic.
Sun is the second lowest ranked player among the top eight at Wimbledon in the last 15 editions. Only Serena Williams surpasses her, number 181 in 2018 when she returned after motherhood.
