MAGEE, Miss. (WJTV) – Magee police announced a woman, who has warrants in Canada, was arrested in connection to a vehicle burglary.
The incident occurred just before 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4 in the Dollar Tree parking lot.
According to police, the victim stated she had been approached by a man asking for directions to the nearest hospital. The victim said she noticed a woman entering her vehicle and taking her purse. The victim yelled, and the two suspects ran away. Investigators said the female suspect had the victim’s wallet.

Magee police said they detained the female suspect near Huddle House. She was identified as Elena Matilda Trifu, of Romania. Police said Trifu did not have the wallet on her at the time she was taken into custody, but she confessed to the theft.
Officers said the stolen wallet was later recovered in a trash can at a nearby restaurant’s restroom.
According to investigators, Trifu had outstanding warrants in Canada from Toronto and Quebec for being part of a “criminal organization” and theft exceeding $5,000. Police said she had entered the country illegally with an unknown accomplice.
Trifu was arrested, booked and processed at the Magee Police Department. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on her for further investigation and action.
