Overnight the City of Erie received additional snow removal equipment from around the state and on Wednesday that equipment was put to work on streets covered with three-plus feet of snow dumped over the last five days.

Crews from both the City of Erie and PennDOT finally arrived in Little Italy around noon on Wednesday, much to the relief of residents who have been snowed in since the storm began.

Anthony Gonzalez has four tenants on 18th Street. He has been checking on them and delivering groceries.

The Erie native said he hasn’t seen conditions like this for 30 years and it’s taking a toll.

“Getting to my tenants is pretty much next to impossible. Furnaces are going out. Windows are cracking. Systems are going down. Roofs are collapsing. It’s crazy out here,” said Gonzalez.

The City of Erie continues to operate under a disaster emergency declaration. Residents are urged to stay off the streets if at all possible to enable crews to do their jobs.
