January has gotten off to a cold start. Thanks to the Arctic air mass, the last 7 days have been below average. For those who are sick of the cold, I bring good news: warm weather is on the way.
Today, we will finally break the streak of below-average days, as temperatures will climb into the upper 40s and lower 50s. Clouds will build throughout the day, offering a good mix of sun and clouds, with more clouds by the time evening arrives.
A cold front returns Saturday night, ushering in cooler temperatures for Sunday. I want to stress that temperatures will be cool, not cold. This will not be another shot of Arctic air, as high temperatures will manage to stay above freezing and climb to the 40-degree mark.
Old Man Winter stays away for the workweek as well. Temperatures in the 50s will be possible on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We are slowly transitioning out of the grasp of winter and into a warmer pattern. While bursts of Arctic cold will still be possible toward the end of the winter season, I am not expecting them to be the norm.
Precipitation chances look slim for this week. Our best chance will be going into the upcoming weekend, as a storm will return wet weather for us, but bring heavy snowfall to people to the north.
