Dozens of protesters marched on the pedestrian portion of the I-74 bridge today to call attention to the role immigrants and their families play in the Quad Cities.
The rally was organized by a Facebook group called Latinos Unidos. Many of them have parents or grandparents who came here from Mexico to build better lives. They’re also concerned about racism.
“We’re here to have our share of the American pie like everyone else,” Miguel Rosas, who organized the rally, said. “We’re not here to cause trouble. We’re here to work, we’re not here to steal or commit a crime. My dad came here from Mexico in 1973 illegally. I’m a business owner of a few different businesses and I’m a prideful American- Mexican American- and I’ve dealt with some discrimination from people.”
After the march across the bridge, the group gathered at the exit ramp from I-74 onto River Drive in Moline to continue to give their message to drivers.
