Israel is to lodge an appeal against the arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netanyahu’s office said on Wednesday.
Israel had also called on the court to postpone execution of the arrest warrants, the prime minister’s office said in a statement, without providing a reason for the request.
The ICC had decided to issue the warrants without factual or legal justification, the statement from Netanyahu’s office said on the basis of the appeal’s text, again without providing details.
The ICC issued arrests warrants on Thursday for Netanyahu and the recently dismissed Israeli defence minister Gallant, as well as the Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif, for alleged war crimes relating to the conflict in Gaza.
