BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Mexico Beach officials say they’re ready to bring electric vehicle charging ports to the city.

They first discussed the charging stations in March. The city is working with Duke Energy to install two charging ports at the Mexico Beach Community Council Visitor Center.

The electric company has about two dozen charging stations in their service area, including one in Apalachicola.

Duke will pay for the installation and take care of the maintenance.

“We’re adding a couple of those charging parts at the CDC for visitors. It’s going to hopefully draw some more visitors in as a stop and then spending their money here with our Mexico beach businesses. But it’s also a resource for residents.”

Duke will have until April 15th to install the ports.
