Israel has been assured of a safe exit for hostages out of the Gaza Strip following chaotic scenes as the latest group was released on Thursday, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

Although the statement did not explicitly mention it, the pledge secured by mediators to the Gaza conflict is expected to pave the way for the release for 110 Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

Netanyahu had delayed their release earlier on Thursday after a frenzy erupted in the Gaza Strip as Israeli hostages were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Eight hostages held by militants in Gaza were released as part of the latest exchange between Israel and Hamas.
