MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — A local Army Chief was honored by his community after being killed nearly four years ago overseas.
Army Chief Warrant Officer Three Dallas Garza lost his life in a helicopter crash while on a peacekeeping mission in Egypt in November 2020.
On Thursday, local police and the Vets-Roll Organization visited Garza’s mother outside her Machesney Park home. They installed a memorial banner in remembrance of her son.
“She was very touched by the thought, very happy. I’m sure you heard her talk here a little bit ago,” said Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Joseph Broullard. “It means a lot for her to have a place to connect with her son at her house. She can see him now, which is a wonderful little thing [to] make her a little bit more comfortable.”
Garza’s mother Belinda said being a pilot was his lifelong dream.
