LANSING, Mich.(WLNS)— Thousands of wrestlers head to Downtown Lansing for a national competition.

The Lansing Center is hosting the Nuway Sparty Christmas Party Saturday afternoon.

The event is a national wrestling competition featuring athletes from 19 different states and even two provinces in Canada.

The competition runs from Saturday through Monday.

Meghan Ziehmer, Executive Director for the Lansing Sports Commission says the event is bringing huge businesses to the downtown area, during a relatively slow season.

She says the streets of downtown Lansing are pretty empty during the holidays.

“With the students being gone, and the state workers being gone, and it being student break for the schools,” said Ziehmer. “It’s really exciting to bring those dollars into the community. People are out spending dollars at our restaurants. Staying at our hotels, shopping in our malls.”
