A school near Tel Aviv was badly damaged when a missile fired from Yemen was shot down early on Thursday, according to Israeli media reports.
The debris from the projectile hit the school building in the suburb of Ramat Gan, causing part of the structure to collapse.
There were no casualties although there could have been a tragedy if the attack had occurred a little later at the start of classes, said an army spokesman.
According to the military, the missile was detected approaching Israel when a long-planned Israeli air attack on harbours in Yemen and, for the first time, on the capital Sanaa had already begun.
Dozens of fighter jets, tanker planes and reconnaissance aircraft were involved in the attack in Yemen, around 2,000 kilometres away.
According to the Times of Israel newspaper, the pro-Iranian Houthi militia has fired around 200 missiles and 170 drones at Israel in the past 12 months. Israel was able to intercept most of the missiles, it said.
The militia claims it operates in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been waging war against the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas since the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
