The Israeli air force on Tuesday attacked targets in Beirut, ahead of a possible ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia.
After issuing evacuation calls to residents in the area, the military attacked Burj al-Barajneh, a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital.
Residents reported that large explosions rocked the city.
At least six buildings were destroyed in the attack, according to Lebanese security sources.
The Israeli army also announced that a commander of the pro-Iranian Shiite militia Hezbollah had been killed in an airstrike near the coastal city of Tyre.
The man was involved in planning attacks on Israeli targets, the Israeli side said.
The attacks came a few hours before a meeting of the Israeli security Cabinet. According to media reports, a 60-day ceasefire with Hezbollah could be approved at the meeting.
