Israel’s air force has carried out massive strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, a hotbed of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement, ahead of a possible ceasefire to end the fighting in Lebanon.

Dozens of airstrikes simultaneously hit the Dahiyeh suburbs.

The sound of huge explosions echoed throughout the city and caused panic among residents, in the heaviest wave of recent attacks.

According to eyewitnesses, thick clouds of smoke rose while parts of the suburbs were engulfed in flames.

Israel’s armed forces confirmed attacks on “terror targets,” without initially giving further details.

The army earlier issued evacuation warnings for at least 20 sites in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
