The Israeli military announced on Thursday another night-time curfew in southern Lebanon, a day after a fragile ceasefire deal with the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia began.

A spokesman said the military has banned access to the border areas south of the Litani River between 5 pm (1500 GMT) on Thursday and 7 am on Friday.

“For your safety, you must follow these instructions,” the spokesman said. The military announced a similar curfew on Wednesday evening.

According to the ceasefire deal, Hezbollah must withdraw behind the Litani River, which flows around 30 kilometres north of the border to Israel.

Israeli forces are to gradually withdraw from Lebanon within 60 days. However, the Israeli military says it is currently still taking action against Hezbollah members in the area who are violating the agreement.
