Iran has ordered three days of national mourning following the assassination of top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, with a funeral march in the capital planned for Thursday, the IRNA news agency reported.

Haniyeh will be buried in Qatar following funeral prayers on Friday, the Palestinian Islamist movement said.

Hamas said its leader was killed in an Israeli attack in Tehran. Haniyeh was on a visit to the Iranian capital to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Israel has not yet commented on the incident. Iran and Hamas have announced retaliation.
