ST. LOUIS – People in the St. Louis area gathered Monday evening to pay tribute to the lives impacted by the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel.
More than 1,000 people were killed in the attacks, and more than 200 hostages were taken. Over 100 of those hostages still have not been returned.
Back here at home, hundreds of people packed the Jewish Community Center to pray, mourn and reflect on what has been a difficult year. But for many, the message remained the same: they want the hostages returned home, and they want the war to end.
One rabbi told FOX 2 that Jewish tradition is to spend a year mourning a tragedy, slowly moving toward healing. That made Monday night’s event even more significant for the community on-hand.
The event was put on by the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.
