German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has warned her Chinese counterpart not to let Russia get away with its war in Ukraine.

“The Russian president is not only destroying our peaceful European order with his war of aggression against Ukraine, but is now also dragging Asia into it via North Korea,” Baerbock said on Monday during her one-day visit to Beijing.

During her meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Baerbock said she spoke “intensively” about the fact that Chinese support for Russia’s war was not in China’s interests.

During the three-hour meeting in the Chinese capital, Baerbock addressed accusations that China is supplying the Russian military with drones or drone parts.

Baerbock had recently warned Beijing that such exports to Russia would have consequences.

Supporting a “brutal” war would be a violation of international law, Baerbock said.

She said that consultations were now underway over potential sanctions or other measures in the European Union.
