Germany’s ADV airport association says it plans to schedule talks with the climate action group Last Generation after its activists targeted several German airports in a series of controversial protests in recent weeks.

“A meeting between representatives of Last Generation and the management of the airport association ADV will take place soon,” the group said on Tuesday.

The ADV was looking to use the talks to explain that airports are the wrong place for protests as they were pursuing an ambitious agenda for climate neutrality, according to the association.

ADV offered Last Generation to hold talks some two weeks ago.

The association said it aims to inform climate activists about the latest climate policy and measures airports are implementing. It also wants to discuss with them the impact of runway blockades on airport safety.

The climate activists responded on Monday, accepting the offer for dialogue under the condition that the subject of the talks be specified.

Flights were suspended at two airports after Last Generation launched protest actions at several German airports on Thursday, breaching fences and glueing themselves to the tarmac.

The actions targeted the Berlin-Brandenburg, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Cologne-Bonn airports.

Air traffic at Cologne-Bonn and Nuremberg was briefly interrupted.
