GAC Aion New Energy Automobile (GAC Aion), the main electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing unit of Chinese state owned automaker GAC Group, said it aims to begin vehicle production in Indonesia from early 2025.
The company currently sells vehicles imported from China through local distributor Indomobil Group. It is currently building a plant in Cikampek in West Java with an initial production capacity of 30,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Andry Ciu, CEO of local subsidiary Aion Indonesia, said the plant will assemble Aion’s full range of BEVs mainly for the local market, adding: “We will begin production early next year and aim to accelerate the local assembly process.”
The company said it aims to meet the 40% local content requirement by 2027 with a target to achieve 80% local content later on.
Ciu said the first model to be produced at the plant will be the Y Plus, scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, followed by other models.
“GAC Aion to begin production in Indonesia” was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
