There have been at least 20 fatalities following several Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since early Friday morning, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Among the victims is a journalist, as well as women and minors, WAFA reported, citing medical sources.
The Israeli military initially did not comment on the report. However, it stated that on the previous day, it had hit around 40 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip with airstrikes, including command centres of the Palestinian militant organization.
Some of the Hamas posts were located in former school buildings, the military said.
The Israeli military always emphasizes that it takes measures to minimize the risk to civilians.
The information from both sides could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, in southern Israel, there was another rocket alert due to a projectile fired from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. There were initially no reports of injuries or damage.
Recently, there has been more frequent rocket fire from the Palestinian territory.
