Five people were killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza City after the beginning of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was delayed on Sunday, according to Palestinian reports.

According to eyewitnesses, the Israeli military attacked a group of Palestinians looking to return to their homes in the east of the Gaza Strip, the Hamas-controlled civil defence said.

It was not possible to independently verify the claims.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on the report, but previously said it is continuing to strike Gaza after the ceasefire expected to go into effect at 8:30 am (0630 GMT) had been delayed after Hamas failed to provide the names of the three hostages set to be released first.

At least three Palestinians were killed in a blast caused by explosives left behind by Israeli forces in a house in northern Gaza, according to the civil defence.
