ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A brief opportunity to take down those Christmas decorations, before the Twin Tiers gets hit with another blast of very cold Arctic air. Beyond that another system brings a wintry mix of precipitation to the area this holiday weekend. Time to think about pets, pipes and people.

Lake effect snow showers continues tonight to the north and the northwest of us. Before that our high and low temperatures Friday will feel noticeably warmer and closer to normal. This brief dance with warmer air will also cut off the lake effect snow machine at least for a little while. Then it gets very cold. Dangerously cold as a matter of fact, especially at night.

By the end of the day on Monday, without the wind chills, we will stand to dip to below zero temperatures. Then add a 15-20mph breeze and we are anywhere between -10° to -25°. This next wave will help to kickstart off more lake effect snow too. High temperatures go from the 20s on Sunday, to the single digits and low teens by Tuesday. Then the overnight lows go from the upper-teens and low 20s Saturday night, to single digits to below zero Monday and Tuesday nights.
