A member of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has been arrested during a raid against suspected right-wing terrorists in Germany, Poland and Austria, dpa learned on Tuesday.

The individual is reportedly a local politician from the eastern German state of Saxony and is allegedly part of the political party’s youth faction.

According to unconfirmed reports from dpa sources, the suspect is said to have sustained a jaw injury doing his arrest and is currently undergoing surgery. Witness statements are expected to help clarify how the injury occurred and provide further details on the incident.

Earlier, German prosecutors announced that eight suspected members of an extreme right-wing terrorist organization had been arrested in Saxony and Poland.

The prosecutor’s office described the group as a militant organization of 15 to 20 individuals with an ideology marked by racist, anti-Semitic, and partially apocalyptic beliefs. Its members, it said, share a profound rejection of Germany’s free and democratic constitutional order.
