Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack in the southern Gaza Strip, the Hamas-controlled civil defence agency said on Thursday, despite the ceasefire between Israel and the militants.

Both Palestinians were killed by Israeli tank fire near the city of Rafah, the agency said. Palestinian news outlet WAFA reported that the two individuals had been targeted by Israeli forces.

The Israeli military said it would investigate the report.

Several violent encounters have occurred involving armed or masked Palestinians, the Israeli military said earlier.

On day five of the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, volunteers and relatives continued to search for bodies under the rubble of destroyed buildings.

WAFA reported that rescue teams had recovered nine more bodies near the southern city of Khan Younis and four more not far from Gaza City in the north.
