Leading footballers, active or retired, and golf lovers They will meet this Tuesday at Golf Santander (Madrid) in the I Spanish Football Players Cup, a competition with a solidarity nature that will proclaim the footballer Spanish Golf Champion 2024 in their five official game categories.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Luzín Foundation, the tournament management will donate 100% of player registrations to the entity with the aim of collaborating in raising awareness of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), improving treatment and social care, as well as research of a disease that more than 4,000 people in Spain suffer from. In addition, JGOLF, the company promoting the competition, is launching the Birdies for ALS campaign in which it will contribute 5 euros for each net birdie scored on the course during the two days of competition. .
With this solidarity incentive and the competitive personality of the tournament, many well-known faces from the world of football will compete in Golf Santander. Bernd Schuster, Paco J�mez, C�sar Azpilicueta, Esteban Vigo “Boquer�n Esteban”, Miguel Torres, Luis Milla or Aleix Vidal will hit the ball on the 1st tee in a unique tournament in our country . Among all, Juantxo Elia, former Osasuna goalkeeper, stands out in terms of level, with a handicap of -1.9, higher than that of Gareth Bale and Rafael Nadal, among others.
“I am a golf nut and I missed a competition like this. It is a pride for me to contribute my grain of sand to this charitable cause. There are many soccer players and former soccer players who love golf and we didn’t have a tournament just ours. It is a fantastic idea, I hope it is the first edition of many more. It will be a fantastic few days and it will be nice to meet people we haven’t seen in a while. We will be there to give our best and try to win in a competitive and demanding field,” explains Paco J�mez.
For his part, César Azpilicueta pointed out that he “really wanted to share these golf days with professional colleagues for charitable purposes. “It will be a pleasure to enjoy this first edition of competition in a field like Golf Santander, where there will be a great atmosphere and where I hope to continue enjoying the sport.”
