Lthe criminal charges against Scottie Scheffler were dismissed, ending the case that began with images of the world’s best golfer being arrested and handcuffed in Louisville during the PGA Championship.
Jefferson County Prosecutor Mike O’Connell today asked a judge to drop all four charges against Scheffler. The prosecutor said his team reviewed the case “thoroughly and expeditiously.” “Based on all the evidence we have, my office cannot move forward in prosecuting the charges brought against Mr. Scheffler”, O’Connell said during a hearing that lasted less than 10 minutes. “Scheffler’s explanation that this was ‘a big misunderstanding’ is corroborated by the evidence,” he added.
Let us remember that the Masters champion was charged with felony assault with his vehicle on a police officer, in addition to three misdemeanors. The arresting officer, Detective Bryan Gillis, was outside the gate of Valhalla Golf Club on May 17 directing traffic following the fatal hit and run of a pedestrian when the incident occurred.
