Although the action of the PGA Tour focuses this week on the Scottish Open, in which the Spaniard Alejandro del Rey shone today with his own light, the American circuit maintains its activity in its country of origin. The ISCO Championship is being held in Nicholasville (Kentucky), an event that can change lives and open the doors of the Tour to players less common in these parts.
And this week, a Spaniard who is having a great moment is shining in the American showcase. This is Ángel Hidalgo, a player who a few days ago managed to qualify spectacularly for the British Open in one of the qualifying tournaments. That day, the Marbella native needed an eagle on the last hole to get his direct ticket to Troon, and he holed out from 109 meters.
The Spaniard’s feat was even recorded in the American press, which thanks to that does not see Hidalgo as a stranger, but quite the opposite. In fact, the man from Malaga is leaving his mark in a tournament that can, from the outset, significantly boost him in the world ranking. Ángel has confirmed in the second round that he is sweet and that he is going for the victory. After the 65 on the first day, he shot 66 on the second. With 131 total, he is one stroke behind the leader in the clubhouse, the Belgian Matthis Besard.
The Andalusian closed the day with birdies at 15, 16 and 17, and at 18 he saved a great par. Ángel has shone in all areas and the best thing is that he has shot for birdie on most of the holes, which invites us to be optimistic about what is to come. He has also taken advantage of it very successfully. Let us hope that the day of the movement is auspicious. Rafa Cabrera Bello is also competing in the tournament and will make the cut, while Iván Cantero narrowly missed out. Manuel Elvira won’t pass it either.
