Last year Robert MacIntyre came close to winning the Scottish Open after a huge comeback, but Rory McIlroy deprived him of glory at home. Nothing made Bob more excited than winning the ‘his’ national open and playing in the Ryder Cup. From there came another MacIntyre who weeks later, in Rome, finished taking the leap that was needed in his career. Today he finally won the Scottish Open (a Rolex Series tournament co-sponsored by the PGA and DP World Tour) and he did it like the great champions, playing his best golf under pressure. Robert, who made eagle at 16 and birdie at 18, scored 67 shots in the fourth round, the same as Adam Scott, who was one behind the winner in the overall calculation.

Everything changed with an eagle on 16. Bob had an uncomfortable situation from the rough and it was even more so when he saw that there was a sprinkler that was preventing him from swinging. Carrying out tests, he verified that his right leg hit this element and he was allowed to drop. This changed everything and, from there, he hit an incredible shot and moments later he kicked to make the eagle.
The tournament changed hands throughout the day. At the beginning of the day many would have bet on Ludvig Aberg, but the Swede was erratic and less confident. The young man had done perfectly during the previous three rounds, but on D-day, unfortunately for him, everything went wrong. Several players fought for the lead, but as the day progressed it was Scott who gained the advantage and became the favorite until MacIntyre’s eagle. The Australian completed his round with the Scot playing the 17th, but was left without a play-off after a magnificent putt by Bob on the 18th. This year MacIntyre can already boast of having scored two great victories, having won the Canadian Open in June, a tournament which he won with his father as a caddy.
