Manolo Santana, the pioneer of Spanish tennis, remains in the memory of tennis fans. Coinciding with the 58th anniversary of his title on the grass at Wimbledon, at El Pandero they have named their main court with the name of the racket legend.
It was last Sunday, just before the Open Generali final, when the mayor of Palma del Ro, Matilde Esteo, discovered, together with Claudia Rodríguez, Santana’s widow, the plaque with her name.
The tournament is the best WTA tournament held in Andalusia and has a prize pool of $40,000. It is the third track in Spain that bears the name of the great Manolo. It joins the Caja Mágica headquarters and the main court of the Puente Romano Tennis Club, in Marbella..
