The Israeli army said late on Saturday that it hit illegal border crossings on the Syrian-Lebanese border, used by the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement to try to smuggle weapons into Lebanon.

“These smuggling attempts are a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said, referring to the current ceasefire.

The IDF said it will continue to operate to remove any threat to Israel and will move to prevent any attempt by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to rebuild its forces.

Lebanese security sources said the strikes targeted an area in the town of Qusaya in the Bekaa Valley, in eastern Lebanon.

Syrian activists and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has been monitoring violence in Syria since 2011, confirmed the strikes.

Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes targeting crossings in the Qalamoun region, the Qusaya al-Bekaa plains, and Asal al-Ward on the Lebanese-Syrian border, the monitoring group said.
