German police managed to thwart a planned arson attack on a refugee shelter in eastern Germany after receiving an anonymous tip-off about the suspect, prosecutors revealed on Thursday.
Police near Dresden raided two properties after receiving the tip and recovered high-powered illegal fireworks, brass knuckles, knives, signal guns, pellot weapons and ammunition, the public prosecutor’s office in Dresden said.
A 21-year-old German suspect allegedly collected the weapons and explosives to equip himself for an attack on the accommodation for asylum seekers in the town of Senftenberg.
Police took the suspect into custody and he has been brought before a judge to determine whether he will remain jailed as the investigation continues.
