Israel’s security Cabinet has begun its consultations on a ceasefire agreement with Hamas involving the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners, according to the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The meeting in Jerusalem began a day later than initially planned.

If the security Cabinet gives the green light as expected, the government still has to approve the deal before it goes into force.

The ceasefire is scheduled to begin at 12:15 pm (1015 GMT) on Sunday. Netanyahu’s office said that it could come into force as planned, provided the security Cabinet and government agree.

The first hostages are expected to be released on Sunday. According to Israeli media, this could happen at 4 pm.
