French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a political solution to the Israel-Hamas conflict following Qatar’s announcement of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

Macron stressed the importance of ensuring that the ceasefire is respected, emphasizing the huge relief for the people of Gaza and hope for hostages and their families after 15 months of what he described as “unjustifiable ordeal.”

The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the ceasefire must be implemented and maintained, and must lead to the release of all hostages.

The ministy also demanded urgent action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and immediate commencement of reconstruction efforts.

France also called on supporters of both Israel and Palestine to use the ceasefire as an opportunity to work towards a two-state solution, ensuring security for both Israelis and Palestinians. This, according to France, is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace.
