Hamas has agreed in writing to a Gaza ceasefire deal with Israel which also includes the release of further hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners, sources within the Islamist organization have said.

The written approval was submitted to mediators in Qatar after Israel had presented plans for the withdrawal of its troops, the sources added, saying all Palestinian factions have accepted the proposal.

Israel’s negotiators have already agreed to the deal but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office earlier announced that Hamas had not yet responded.

Through indirect negotiations, the US, Egypt and Qatar have been endeavouring for months to persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire and Hamas to release Israeli hostages.
