A man has been fined €2,400 ($2,471) for throwing faeces and a rock at Germany’s Constitutional Court.

According to a spokeswoman, the Karlsruhe District Court on Tuesday sentenced the 48-year-old man, who pleaded guilty, to 80 daily rates of €30 each for property damage in an expedited procedure, which means the defendant did not have a criminal record.

The spokeswoman noted that the verdict was final.

The incident only took place on Monday afternoon. “While still talking to the federal police officers, the defendant took out a plastic bag holding a stone and suddenly threw it against the glass of the entrance to the Federal Constitutional Court,” the court said, adding that the rock was wrapped in plastic containing faeces.

The impact bent a sun blind and scratched the safety glass, it said.

“The defendant has recently appeared several times with similar offences, including a similar recent attack on the Federal Chancellery,” the court said.

He is said to have been noticed at the Interior Ministry in Berlin on Friday, and at the Chancellery on Sunday.

The man has reportedly also admitted these acts and said he wanted to attract attention to a constitutional complaint he had filed.
