The European Commission announced on Monday a new humanitarian aid package worth €140 million ($142.8 million) to address the most pressing needs in eastern and southern Ukraine.
The funding is intended to help provide food, shelter, clean water, health care and winter protection to vulnerable populations in the war-torn regions, the commission said in a press release.
The commission estimates that around 12.7 million Ukrainians are in need of urgent assistance.
Neighbouring Moldova receives an additional €8 million to support Ukrainian refugees with cash assistance and access to health care, education and psychosocial support.
The new package brings the total of humanitarian aid allocated by the European Commission to over €1.1 billion, the press release said.
The announcement comes as EU Crisis Commissioner Hadja Lahbib is visiting Ukraine where she is expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
