With the collapse of the regime of Bashar al-Assad, the humanitarian situation in Syria remains unstable, the United Nations said.

Hospitals across Syria are reportedly overwhelmed by the high number of patients with trauma and other injuries, as reported by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Many people are suffering from immense psychological stress, with children in particular showing signs of trauma, the OCHA said on Tuesday.

In many major cities such as the capital Damascus, there have been reports of food shortages. Since the beginning of the rebel offensive, the price of bread in cities like Idlib and Aleppo has increased by 900%.

The UN estimates that since the beginning of the rebel offensive led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), approximately 1 million people have been displaced in Syria. The movement of refugees is continuing, it said.

The OCHA has warned of minefields that restrict both the movement of people and the delivery of goods. Over the past 10 days, at least 52 minefields have been identified across the country.
