The number of unemployed people in Germany fell in November, officials figures showed on Friday, both compared to the previous month and compared to the previous year.
There were 17,000 fewer unemployed in November compared to October, for a total of 2.774 million.
That is 168,000 more than in November 2023, the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg revealed.
The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 5.9% compared to October.
“The weak economy continues to weigh on the labour market. Unemployment and underemployment did decrease in November, but the declines were – as in the previous month – minimal,” said the chair of the Federal Employment Agency, Andrea Nahles.
The demand for labour has meanwhile continued to decline. In November, the employment agencies had 668,000 vacancies on record. That is 65,000 fewer than a year ago.
