Germany and India signed a security agreement during government consultations in the Indian capital New Delhi allowing for the exchange of sensitive information more extensively than before, according to German government sources.
Such agreements provide a framework for the exchange of confidential information between authorities and companies in the participating countries. Depending on their design, they can enable stronger collaboration in areas such as security policy or defence technology.
A legal assistance agreement in criminal matters was also signed, as well as joint exercises and port visits involving the German Navy with Indian partners.
With a loan from the KfW development bank, the German government aims to promote the expansion of renewable energies in India.
Additionally, a series of agreements were signed on Friday facilitating cooperation between German and Indian research institutes in fields such as biosciences, materials research, and polar and marine research. Both sides also plan to establish a joint training programme for managers.
