HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Former One Direction singer Liam Payne died after falling from his hotel room in Argentina. The singer was 31.

State police says he was staying at the hotel CasaSur in Palermo. Police responded to a call on Wednesday for a report an “aggressive man” believed to be under the influence. As of now, it is unclear if that man was Payne.

Authorities say Payne suffered “very serious injuries” and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Payne joined One Direction during the group’s creation in 2010 on the show “X Factor.” Other members included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson. The group disbanded in 2016.

Payne’s solo endeavor included hits like “Strip That Down” featuring rapper Quavo and “Get Low” with Zedd.

This is a developing story.
